WHY CHOOSE

“In mid-2025 we bit the bullet and decided to place an order for a Wedgetail 22 slide on camper.  We are in our 70s and felt the need to put our tent camping days behind us.  The Wedgetail proprietor, Darren, recommended that we have a chassis extension and GVM upgrade done to whatever vehicle we chose and directed us to Adaptive Manufacturing in Adelaide.  We made contact with Adaptive to check on the process.  Peter Eblen, the Managing Director of Adaptive, gave us a personal phone call to provide advice on vehicle selection.  We settled on a Ford Ranger dual cab with the 3-litre motor.  As we live in Sydney, Adaptive placed the order for the vehicle on our behalf in Adelaide, took delivery of the vehicle and undertook the 298mm extension and GVM upgrade.  They then arranged to have the Ranger trucked to Newcastle, where Wedgetail is based, to have a specialty tray fitted.

We took delivery of the completed Wedgetail in February 2026 and embarked on a 3-month trip to WA.  The rig took everything in its stride, bitumen, gravel, sand, rock and mud.  The Wedgetail is a weighty unit, close to a tonne all up, but the GVM upgrade made light of this, particularly in heavily undulating sections.  The vehicle always felt well balanced and the chassis extension ensured that even on the steepest inclines the vehicle mass was evenly distributed.  Another bonus of the chassis extension is that the car eats corrugations.
